Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that the decision came as a "huge surprise" when asked about it by captain Hardik Pandya. Even so, Gambhir admitted he "can't answer this question."

"Great surprise. I am unable to respond to this question, especially on a wicket like today. Your top spinner in the T20 format is Chahal. It doesn't make sense to me to only give him two overs to bowl, even if he took the crucial wicket of Finn Allen in those two overs "Gambhir made the comment on Star Sports following the game.

Gambhir concurs that young players like Arshdeep Singh and Shivam Mavi should be given a chance, but he also believes that if Chahal had bowled his entire allotted number of overs, New Zealand would have been dismissed for 80 or 85 runs. Previous plans called for Pakistan to host the continental competition. The head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and BCCI secretary Jay Shah recently announced that the Indian cricket team will not be visiting Pakistan to compete in the 2023 Asia Cup. In response, former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja cautioned the BCCI that their decision might have major ramifications, including Pakistan possibly withdrawing from the ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in India in 2023.

A meeting of the ACC to consider the matter will take place on February 4 in Bahrain, as announced recently by current PCB chairman Najam Sethi. "There will be a meeting with ACC representatives, and at long last, we have a date for it. On February 4, I will travel to Bahrain for a meeting of the ACC. Although Pakistan's Babar Azam won two ICC Awards in 2022, cricket legend and ICC Hall of Famer Ricky Ponting thinks we haven't seen the best of the player yet.

He still has some opportunity to grow and develop, so he's definitely not at his full potential just yet. Babar won the 2022 ICC Awards for both Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year and the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, the main honor for men in cricket.

Ponting, in an interview with The ICC Review, was among the first to sing Babar's praises, praising the Pakistani captain for his textbook batting foundation and adaptability.

Ponting, as reported by ICC, praised his "very good" technical abilities.

As one commentator put it, "He plays spin bowling extremely well, he plays fast bowling pretty well, and he has been able to adapt to varied circumstances throughout the world, which is what distinguishes the great players from the decent ones."

"I have witnessed firsthand how he is able to be dominant in other settings (than the ones you are brought up in)."

"The best players also have formidable mental fortitude. It's easy to see that he's a versatile batter thanks to the way he chooses his games, how long he stays at the crease in Tests, and how he steers the ship in one-dayers. All three of Babar's foreign forms make for fantastic reading. Babar scored 1,184 runs in Tests, 679 runs at 85 in ODIs, and 735 runs at a strike rate of 123 in T20Is in 2022, leading his team to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in Australia.

These numbers would be considered the ceiling by some, but Ponting believes there is more to come.

"Most likely, he is not (at his peak). Most hitters reach their peak performance in their early to mid-30s "This is what he had to say, he said.

Babar's accomplishments are even more impressive given the responsibility that comes with being a captain.

In addition to his massive batting average, Pakistan dominated one-day international play in 2018, winning eight of nine matches and improving their record to 14 victories in 26 games heading into 2022.

Despite taking Pakistan to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup for the second year in a row, Ponting believes there are wrinkles to smooth out on the leadership front. However, Ponting advises Babar to learn from every circumstance he encounters.

"He seemed nervous at the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, especially in that game against India when things were so close. Several of the more seasoned players went up to him, with Shadab Khan, in particular, attempting to calm him down and help him think more clearly "Ponting remarked.

"Of course, that's the nature of the T20 game. Being the T20 squad captain is difficult under any circumstances, but it is extremely challenging when the stakes are high, as they were at that point in the World Cup."

For Ponting, "he will discover the perfect approach to lead and be a very successful captain of Pakistan with a bit more experience under his belt like he is done with his batting."

A BCCI selector has provided an explanation for why Sarfaraz Khan has yet to make his Test debut.

Safaraz Khan's situation has been unusual, given he is now one of the best batters in all of domestic cricket. However, despite his ruthless batting, Sarfaraz is still "in the scheme of things" and not close enough to making India's Test selection. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav were nominated to India's team for the first two Tests against Australia, but the 'run-machine' Sarfaraz wasn't even considered. A selector for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has spoken up as the Indian cricket community continues to speculate over the batter's absence.

When asked about the current state of the Indian batting lineup, National selector Sridharan Sharath brought up Sarfaraz's absence in an interview with Sportstar.

Sharath praised the current squad, including both the established players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and the up-and-coming ones like Cheteshwar Pujara.

"Even now, Kohli can decide close games. Cheteshwar Pujara is a steady presence at the top of the order. It's no secret that Rohit Sharma is a fantastic batsman and a superb leader. Shreyas Iyer always delivers the goods. Both Shubhman Gill and K.L. Rahul had true talent, "This is what he had to say, he explained.

Sharat explained that the decision to leave out the young batter was made for reasons of "composition and balance" when asked about Sarfaraz.

"We are keeping an eye out for him. He'll get his just reward eventually. We need to think about the team's overall balance and composition as we make our final selections "What he had to say was.

The figures show that England's star all-rounder Ben Stokes had a fantastic year in the Test cricket whites. Stokes had a productive batting year in 2022, accumulating 870 runs at a 36.25 batting average and a 71.21 strike rate with two hundred.

Gill scored his fourth ODI century (112 off 78).

On the eve of the game, Rahul Dravid made a joke about how bowlers don't like to bowl in Indore since the circumstances favor batters. It might be argued that the batting legend is correct. While chasing, New Zealand's batsmen nevertheless had a good time, with Devon Conway scoring a thousand runs.
